Piracetam is a nooprotic drug. Nooprotics are drugs which are smart drugs, memory enhancers and cognitive enhancers. The chemical name of this drug is 2-oxo-pyroliddine acetamide. Piracetam is generally prescribed by doctors in the condition of myoclonus. But people often use it without doctors’ prescription for various other applications. It is mainly used in Europe, Aisa and south America. It has become very popular among students as a cognitive enhancement drug and parents use it to treat autism among children.

 

Though such medication can be risky but piracetam has not many reported cases of serious side effects. Some complications are possible and so the users of this drug must be aware of the side effects of piracetam. Central nervous system is associated and regulates many functions of our body like digestion, mood, movement, etc. Since piracetam directly acts on the central nervous system so the side effects observed can be of varied form. Therefore it is very important to know the effects of the drug on any part of the body. Also it is very essential to know what the right dosage of piracetam is so that it may not cause any adverse effects on the body.

 

The various side effects that are commonly observed are elevated anxiety like nervousness, agitation and restlessness. It also causes changes in the sleeping pattern. One may experience sleeplessness or sleep might be induced which renders a person unable to drive or do ant task properly. Like many other nooprotics piracetam also causes gain in body weight. This problem can be easily controlled by a proper diet. In some patients problems related to blood flow are also observed.

 

Though the side effects caused by piracetam are not of any serious consequence but the user must keep himself aware of the possible side effects. It the condition is aggravated then one must consult the prescribing doctor.
